Pañcime, bhikkhave, ādīnavā duccarite. Katame pañca? Attāpi attānaṃ upavadati; anuvicca viññū garahanti; pāpako kittisaddo abbhuggacchati; saddhammā vuṭṭhāti; asaddhamme patiṭṭhāti. Ime kho, bhikkhave, pañca ādīnavā duccarite. |
English
These five, bhikkhus, are dangers of bad conduct. Which five? One blames oneself; having found out [about his behavior], the wise censure him; his bad reputation spreads; one turns away from the actual Dhamma; one is established in what is contrary to the actual Dhamma. These, bhikkhus, are five dangers of bad conduct. |
Pañcime, bhikkhave, ānisaṃsā sucarite. Katame pañca? Attāpi attānaṃ na upavadati; anuvicca viññū pasaṃsanti; kalyāṇo kittisaddo kittisaddo abbhuggacchati; asaddhammā vuṭṭhāti; saddhamme patiṭṭhāti. Ime kho, bhikkhave, pañca ānisaṃsā sucarite ti. | These five, bhikkhus, are advantages of good conduct. Which five? One does not blame oneself; having found out, the wise praise him; his good reputation spreads; one turns away from what is contrary to the actual Dhamma; one is established in the actual Dhamma.
