A bhikkhu endowed with six qualities, bhikkhus, would break into pieces the Himalayas, the kings of mountains, what to say of the miserable ignorance! Which six?

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu samādhissa samāpatti·kusalo hoti, samādhissa ṭhiti·kusalo hoti, samādhissa vuṭṭhāna·kusalo hoti, samādhissa kallita·kusalo hoti, samādhissa gocara·kusalo hoti, samādhissa abhinīhāra·kusalo hoti.

Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is skilled in attainment of concentration, he is skilled in maintenance of concentration, he is skilled in emergence from concentration, he is skilled in suppleness of concentration, he is skilled in pastures{1} of concentration, and he is skilled in endeavor of concentration.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, chahi dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu himavantaṃ pabbatarājaṃ padāleyya, ko pana vādo chavāya avijjāyā ti!

And how, bhikkhus, is a bhikkhu skilled in pastures? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu understands the four satipaṭṭhānas as they actually are. This, bhikkhus, is how a bhikkhu is skilled in pastures.
