Aṭṭhime, bhikkhave, vimokkhā. Katame aṭṭha?
|
There are, bhikkhus, these eight vimokkhas. Which eight?
|
Rūpī rūpāni passati. Ayaṃ paṭhamo vimokkho.
|
Being possessed of rūpa, one sees rūpas. This is the first vimokkha.
|
Ajjhattaṃ arūpasaññī, bahiddhā rūpāni passati. Ayaṃ dutiyo vimokkho.
|
Not perceiving rūpa internally, one sees rūpas externally. This is the second vimokkha.
|
Subhanteva adhimutto hoti. Ayaṃ tatiyo vimokkho.
|
One is inclined only towards the subha. This is the third vimokkha.
|
Sabbaso rūpasaññānaṃ samatikkamā paṭighasaññānaṃ atthaṅgamā nānattasaññānaṃ amanasikārā ‘ananto ākāso’ti ākāsānañcāyatanaṃ upasampajja viharati. Ayaṃ catuttho vimokkho.
|
Having completely gone beyond rūpa-saññā, the saññā of repulsion having disappeared, not attending to the saññā of diversity, [perceiving:] 'space [is] infinite', having entered ākās·ānañc·āyatana, one dwells therein. This is the fourth vimokkha.
|
Sabbaso ākāsānañcāyatanaṃ samatikkamma ‘anantaṃ viññāṇa’nti viññāṇañcāyatanaṃ upasampajja viharati. Ayaṃ pañcamo vimokkho.
|
Having completely gone beyond ākās·ānañc·āyatana, [perceiving:] 'viññāṇa [is] infinite' having entered viññāṇañc·āyatana he dwells therein. This is the fifth vimokkha.
|
Sabbaso viññāṇañcāyatanaṃ samatikkamma ‘natthi kiñcī’ti ākiñcaññāyatanaṃ upasampajja viharati. Ayaṃ chaṭṭho vimokkho.
|
Having completely gone beyond viññāṇañc·āyatana, [perceiving:] 'there is no-thing', having entered ākiñcaññ·āyatana he dwells therein. This is the sixth vimokkha.
|
Sabbaso ākiñcaññāyatanaṃ samatikkamma nevasaññānāsaññāyatanaṃ upasampajja viharati. Ayaṃ sattamo vimokkho.
|
Having completely gone beyond ākiñcaññ·āyatana, having entered neva-saññā-n·āsaññ·āyatana, he dwells therein. This is the seventh vimokkha.
|
Sabbaso nevasaññānāsaññāyatanaṃ samatikkamma saññāvedayitanirodhaṃ upasampajja viharati. Ayaṃ aṭṭhamo vimokkho.
|
Having completely gone beyond neva-saññā-n·āsaññ·āyatana having entered the nirodha of saññā and vedanā, he dwells therein. This is the eighth vimokkha.
|
Ime kho, bhikkhave, aṭṭha vimokkhā ti.
| These, bhikkhus, are the eight vimokkhas. |
